Phyllis Nowlen Obituary
Phyllis Nowlen, wife of Rev. Charles Nowlen, served (1959-1993) the United Methodist Church in Brady/Dutton, Great Falls West Side, Butte, Kalispell, Lakeside, Somers, Missoula, Billings and Chester/Inverness. They also served as United Methodist missionaries in Anchorage and Wasilla, Alaska, in the 1980s. After retirement, they traveled, living in Salem Oregon and at the family retreat at Lake Mary Ronan. Music was always an important part of her life from playing the viola for many years to singing proudly during church services and directing children’s choirs.
Phyllis attended nursing school in Great Falls and graduated from Montana State University. She provided compassionate nursing care in many settings in communities across Montana and Alaska. Phyllis influenced many young people to pursue careers in the medical field.
After losing in 1994, Chuck, Phyllis resided in Missoula near her children (Andy, Bill, Becky, Judy, Pete, Jeremy), eighteen grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Phyllis was a longtime cheerleader for all family activities, a Denver Broncos fan, and a devoted Montana Grizzlies fan during her time in Missoula. Her love of football and hockey provided ample opportunities to cheer with her.
