The 2016 Yellowstone Annual Conference meeting in Helena, Montana, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, celebrated its opening worship on Thursday, June 16 by observing a Memorial Service remembering conference pastors and spouses who have died during the past year.

Honored guests were family members of those pastors and spouses who joined with conference clergy and lay delegates in remembering the many years of services and faithful lives of those who have served within the bounds of the Yellowstone Annual Conference. Bishop Elaine Stanovsky served as celebrant and worship leader for this service, and was assisted in the celebration of Holy Communion by conference leadership.  An offering received during the service was designated for the Bishop’s Native Peoples Fund.

Those in attendance were reminded in the scripture lesson from Romans chapter 8 “that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (RSV)

Those remembered for their service were the following pastors and spouses: Rev. Ed Folkwein, Rev. John Ulrich, Verla Goff, Lela Gum, Rev. John Moody, Margaret Pfleiderer, Rev. Hap Piper, Susan Berdine Colt, Rev. Oyer Morgan, Lois Corl, Violet Hall, Pastor Paula Morse, Melba Hunter, and Rev. Herbert Burdsall. Thanks be to God for the faithful witness and countless years of service represented in the lives of these dear saints who now surround us and encourage us as members of that great cloud of witnesses.
