Reflections on Missions as Transformation

“You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God .” 2 Corinthians 9:11-12

Entering twelve months into 2012, I can only look back and celebrate a fruitful year working with God in Cambodia through the Methodist mission. For this reason, I bear witness to God’s love and faithfulness for the Khmer people whom I am privileged serving with you

.I stand amazed of the Methodist Church in Cambodia’s growing desire for deeper involve-ment in social justice issues in their communi-ties despite of their limitations, reservations and weaknesses. Today growing numbers of local Methodist congregations have enlisted in our church-based relief and community devel-opment work. As a result we are reaching and bearing witness to the Reign of God to more communities than ever before.

I witnessed God’s goodness overflows even through some horrible and depressing events that struck many communities in Cambodia this year. Through our developmental relief re-sponse God’s faithfulness has never been so  visible for many communities and churches when severe drought and devastating floods struck them. Our collective effort and the gen-erous gifts from various Methodist agencies in the US, Asia and Europe have help many families recover their human dignity and restore their means of livelihood ravaged by natural calamities.

Our various community projects in agriculture, health and income generation have continue to improve the quality of life of many individuals and families where we work. Access of people especially the poor and the marginalized to food, health care and capital resources has increased significantly this year.

Through our work God is also weaving stories of redemption and restoration in the lives of people in many communities we serve. Relationship between the church and their communities is being restored from distrust towards mutual trust and respect. Our various commu-nity projects such as rice bank is giving birth to selfless sharing of blessings amongst church members and their neighbors.

Lastly, I witnessed how God multiply the impact of our work through partnership with different volunteers—individuals and teams. This year we are blessed by committed young interns and faithful UMVIM teams who labor with us to bring healing and freedom in many people we are called to minister on Christ’s behalf.

"I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. ” John 14:12
We thank God for another year of fruitful part-nership with you! Your love, prayers, and encouragements mean a lot to us especially during times of uncertainty and painful moments. We are extremely grateful to all your generous gifts and support that enable us to meet our needs and share these blessings with those in need as well.
We extend our deepest gratitude for the won-derful opportunity to be your ambassadors to the people of Cambodia. As we start another year of partnership let us join hands with God and allow his spirit to take us to places where never been before for his glory and honor!

We love you with God’s everlasting love!
Your grateful partners in Christ,
Ken, Jomil, Kim and Kyle Cruz
