The Peace Light of Bethlehem is an annual event that begins by lighting a lamp from the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. The light then makes its way to Austria, through the rest of Europe, then to New York City, Chicago, and by Christmas to the Peace Church Seattle, which is a German-speaking United Methodist congregation.

Hope United Methodist Church in Billings, Montana, will again take part in the light’s travel. As of this posting, the light will make its way as far as Bismarck, North Dakota, on Dec. 6. Peace Church Seattle is looking for volunteers to help bring the light as far as Billings. From Billings, there is a driver who can transport it as far as Bozeman.

Is there someone in your congregation(s) who could possibly bring the light from Bismarck west? In addition, any volunteers to take it from Bozeman west?  If so, please contact Peace Church Seattle’s Pastor Loellen Nausner to help out. There are instructions online at www.PeaceChurchSeattle.org as to what type of lights to use, and how the Light can be transported.

Hope UMC would also like to offer Billings area congregations the light. If you would be interested in sharing the light for your congregations' Christmas celebrations, please call the Hope UMC office at 259-4673 between 8:30 a.m. to noon ASAP before Dec. 23.  We will arrange a time for you to light your congregations’ light. The best options are either an oil lamp or a seven-day candle. Merry Christmas!
